PHOENIX— The Phoenix Mercury are set to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of their 2014 WNBA Championship team on Friday, September 13, when they take on the Connecticut Sun at 7:00 p.m. at Footprint Center. The event, coinciding with Women’s Empowerment Night presented by CarMax, will feature a special postgame ceremony honoring one of the most dominant teams in WNBA history.

This reunion will bring back key figures from the 2014 squad, including three-time WNBA champion and Mercury Ring of Honor member Penny Taylor, 2014 WNBA Coach of the Year Sandy Brondello, and two-time Mercury champion DeWanna Bonner. Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner, who were instrumental in that championship run, will also be part of the celebration, reconnecting with their former teammates to commemorate a season that solidified their place in WNBA lore.

The 2014 Mercury, led by Taurasi and Griner, set a then-league record with 29 regular-season wins, backed by a 16-game winning streak. Their dominance extended on both ends of the court, boasting the league’s top offensive and defensive ratings. The trio of Griner, Taurasi, and Candice Dupree earned All-Star honors, with Griner also being named Defensive Player of the Year.

The team’s postseason performance was equally impressive. They went 7-1, outscoring opponents by a playoff-record 110 points, and sweeping the Chicago Sky in the WNBA Finals. Taurasi’s leadership and clutch performances earned her the Finals MVP, the second of her career.

Fans attending the game will have the chance to take home commemorative items, with the first 2,500 receiving a special ticket and the first 7,000 fans receiving a rally towel, both courtesy of CarMax. This celebration offers a unique opportunity to relive a historic season and honor the legacy of one of the WNBA’s greatest teams.
