The Diamondbacks completed a three-game sweep over the Rockies in dominant fashion, extending their winning streak to six games. Unlike their come-from-behind wins in the first two games of the series, Arizona dismantled Colorado in the finale.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! In the 1st inning, the Diamondbacks wasted no time trying to put the game away early. After Corbin Carroll and Jake McCarthy reached base to start the afternoon, Joc Pederson grounded a ball down the line. What should have been a stand-up double turned into a Little League home run as Pederson overran second base, and a subsequent errant throw allowed him to score as the ball rolled all the way to the left field fence. As a result, the Diamondbacks were up 3-0 before an out was even recorded.
The Diamondbacks batted around in the 1st inning, knocking Tanner Gordon out of the game after just two outs, as he threw 44 pitches. All four runs scored in the inning were charged to Gordon.

Starting on the mound for Arizona was Jordan Montgomery, who had struggled at home all season. Entering the game with an 8.14 ERA at Chase Field in 2024, Montgomery delivered his first quality start since June 21st.
Montgomery cruised through the first five innings, with the only hard-hit ball coming off the bat of Branton Doyle—a double that led to a run. However, in the 6th inning, the Rockies began to figure out the tall southpaw, stringing together a pair of singles, a double, and a walk to score two runs. Despite this, Montgomery exited after the 6th inning with a three-run lead, securing his 8th win of the season. He also recorded his highest pitch count as a Diamondback, throwing 106 pitches.
In response to Colorado’s two runs in the top of the 6th, Eugenio Suárez broke the game wide open in the bottom half of the inning. With Riley Pint struggling with control—hitting two batters and walking one—Suárez launched his first grand slam since 2018, sending the ball 427 feet.

Rockies pitchers struggled with command all afternoon, issuing seven walks and setting the Diamondbacks up with numerous scoring opportunities. Colorado’s defense also committed three errors, contributing to the D-backs’ lead. Although Arizona secured an 11-4 win, the margin could have been even wider if not for their struggles with runners in scoring position, going just 2-for-15 in those situations.
The Diamondbacks stranded the bases loaded in the 1st inning, left two runners on in the 2nd, stranded runners on the corners in the 3rd, left a runner on 2nd with nobody out in the 5th, and stranded a runner on 3rd in the 7th.
While a win is a win, the Rockies did everything in their power to hand the game to the Diamondbacks.
The Diamondbacks now have a day off before embarking on a nine-game road trip, with matchups against the Rays, Marlins, and Red Sox. Arizona has won 10 of its last 11 games and is just three games behind the Dodgers for first place in the NL West. The starter for Friday’s game against the Rays has not yet been announced, with first pitch scheduled for 3:50 PM.
