The Diamondbacks rallied for a 5-3 victory over the Reds, with Gabriel Moreno’s go-ahead home run in the eighth inning, Ketel Marte’s RBI single and Paul Sewald’s save in the ninth inning securing a series win. With it also came Lovullo’s 700th win as Arizona’s manager after a decade in the Valley.

The achievement puts Lovullo in elite company, now one victory away from tying Hall of Fame manager Rogers Hornsby at 701 career wins. He has also become one of only eight active managers to reach the 700-win group, with just seven active skippers currently owning more victories.

But the milestone represents more than a place in the record book.

Since taking over in 2017, Lovullo has experienced both the highs and lows of the franchise’s current era. From a 52-110 season to a World Series run under his watch, he has helped shape the identity of the organization. Sunday’s game reflected many of the traits that have defined his tenure: resilience, player development and a clubhouse that continues to compete through adversity.

Arizona erased deficits twice and collected its 23rd comeback victory of the season, a testament to the fight players frequently credit to their manager’s leadership.

Milestones provide a glimpse into history, but they can also serve as a snapshot of the present. The Diamondbacks are still trying to find consistency amid an ever-fluctuating National League race, and wins like Sunday’s will be needed more than ever if they want to remain in postseason contention.

With No. 701 now within reach, the D-Backs have another opportunity to celebrate a manager who has become synonymous with the organization’s identity.
