After Tuesday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians was postponed, the Diamondbacks and Guardians will play in a traditional doubleheader Wednesday, with first pitch of Game 1 set for 10:10 A.M. MST. Due to the doubleheader rules, the team is allowed to call up any player on their 40-man roster and serve as a 27th player. That player will be Humberto Castellanos, who’s been recalled from Triple-A Reno according to the team’s transaction tracker.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Castellanos was optioned on Tuesday as the corresponding roster move for Eduardo RodrÃguez coming off the 60-day injured list. RodrÃguez will start the second game, scheduled for 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first. Due to the doubleheader rules regarding the 27th player on the roster, the amount of time Castellanos served in the minors is irrelevant although his 15-day clock would reset if sent down afterward.
With Castellanos and Cecconi in the bullpen, the Diamondbacks now have two relievers who can get more than six outs in their bullpen available. The unit should be fully gassed up and ready to go after not pitching on Tuesday due to the rainout. They only had to use three pitchers to get through the first game of the series, none of whom were significantly taxed.
Right-hander Brandon Pfaadt will start the first game and the Diamondbacks will likely need him to pitch deep into that start to give them the most bullpen flexibility for RodrÃguez’s start in the second.
