Brittney Griner announces birth of baby boy during WNBA All-Star media day

On Friday, Team USA center and Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner had an exciting announcement to share during the WNBA All-Star Media Day at the Footprint Center. Griner told the press that her wife, Cherelle, had given birth to a baby boy on July 8th, weighing 7 pounds, 8 ounces.

Cherelle shared her excitement on Instagram, posting, “Can’t believe we’re less than three months away from meeting our favorite human being”.

Brittney Griner has been a prominent figure in women’s basketball, known not just for her ability on the court but also for her resilience off it. During the WNBA All-Star Media Day, Griner spoke about her upcoming memoir detailing her detainment in Russia, the global #WeAreBG movement, and the pressing issue of pay equity for women athletes in the U.S.​ (AOL.com)​.

With so much happening in Griner’s life, including the WNBA season, All-Star festivities, and the approaching Olympics, she shared a heartfelt sentiment with CBS Sports: “They say as soon as you see them, everything that you thought matters just goes out the window and that’s literally what happens. My whole phone has turned into him.”

Despite her busy schedule, Griner is enjoying her time in Phoenix as stars from across the league gather for the festivities.
