Besides Ketel Marte, who will be starting at 2nd base, the Arizona Diamondbacks will not have any representatives at the 2024 All-Star game later this month in Arlington, Texas.

Last year, the Diamondbacks sent four players to the All-Star Game, including Zac Gallen, Geraldo Perdomo, Lourdes Gurriel Jr., and Corbin Carroll.

While injuries have kept many members of the Diamondbacks out of contention for a trip to Arlington, such as Zac Gallen’s hamstring injury and Merrill Kelly’s status on the 60-day IL, the lack of representation also illustrates the type of season it has been for Arizona.

Corbin Carroll for example has seen a massive fall-off compared to his 2023 Rookie of the Year season.

If there were one player that had a chance to attend the All-Star game, it would be Christian Walker, who unfortunately really started to heat up after the voting period closed. Walker has smashed 22 home runs this season and holds a .857 OPS. Since the player/coach voting ended last Sunday, Walker has hit five home runs.

Also hurting Walker’s chances is the fact that the National League is stacked when it comes to first basemen. Behind starter Bryce Harper, it will be former MVP Freddie Freeman.

It should be pointed out that Bryce Harper is currently on the 10-day IL with a hamstring injury. While Harper is expected to return next week, if something pops up, it could pave the way for Walker to be selected as an injury replacement.
