It was a series for the ages for Diamondbacks’ slugger Christian Walker as he continued to make his mark at Dodgers Stadium.

Walker went 8-for-13 at the plate, including five home runs, seven runs scored, and nine RBIs. He was so hot that the Dodgers intentionally walked him twice in the series finale.

As Diamondbacks’ announcer Steve Berthiaume put it, “Christian Walker has taken over Dodger Stadium. There is no explanation for this. It just goes on and on and on. It’s amazing.”

The contrasting reactions from Dave Roberts and Torey Lovullo said it all.

Throughout his career at Dodger Stadium, Walker is hitting .341 with 19 home runs in 138 at-bats. Ironically, the Dodgers originally drafted Walker in the 49th round of the 2009 draft, but he declined. Instead, Walker played college baseball at the University of South Carolina and was later drafted by the Orioles in the fourth round of the 2012 draft.

Following the Diamondbacks‘ 9-3 win, Torey Lovullo praised Walker’s work ethic: “He’s a manager’s dream. He’s on a schedule, there is a routine to everything that he does. He doesn’t miss a day of ground balls on defense. He hits live on the field, he hits the velocity machine on the field. He does all the little things to make sure that his game is tuned up. He deserves what he gets in this game.”

Social media went into a frenzy after Walker hit his second homer of Thursday’s game, making it nine home runs in nine games against the Dodgers this year—a feat that only three other players in Major League Baseball history have accomplished.
