Before the Tuesday’s game against the Minnesota Twins, Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo gave an update on injured players in his pregame media session.

Gabriel Moreno was placed on the 10-day injured list on Saturday with a sprained left thumb suffered in the team’s 5-4 win over the Phillies on Friday. He was replaced in that game in the bottom of the sixth, as he jammed the thumb twice in the game. The first came on an awkward slide at second base, then took a foul tip in the thumb area of his glove.
Theo Mackie of the Arizona Republic reports that Moreno will catch Zac Gallen’s bullpen session on Thursday and Lovullo is optimistic that his catcher will only miss the minimum 10 days.

The Diamondbacks will try to get by with Tucker Barnhart and José Herrera for the 10 days that Moreno is out. The earliest they can activate him will be on July 2, when they start their Southern California road trip against the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres.
Other Health Updates
Zac Gallen and Alek Thomas are on track to return over the weekend, with an open rotation spot and not much maneuvering necessary to slot him back in. John Gambadoro, co-host of the Burns and Gambo Show on Arizona Sports, reported earlier in the day that the Diamondbacks’ ace could likely return on Saturday June 29 against the Oakland Athletics. As mentioned above, Gallen will throw a bullpen on Thursday. Afterward, they’ll decide on whether or not to green light a return. Arizona Republic’s Nick Piecoro reported Monday that Gallen threw 67 pitches in four innings in Monday’s sim game, facing Alek Thomas and Tommy Troy at the complex.
Looking like Saturday versus the A's at Chase for Zac Gallen's return to the mound from what I have heard.

Thomas has started his rehab assignment with Triple-A Reno. The Diamondbacks have missed his glove in center field, but have gotten solid offensive production from their outfield with Jake McCarthy stepping up. McCarthy is hitting .288 with a .775 OPS, reaching base around 37% of the time and using his speed to create chaos on the bases.
