Sure, Slade Cecconi pitched arguably the best game of his career, tossing six shutout innings while allowing just three hits in the Diamondbacks 5-0 win over the Washington Nationals, but some more impressive numbers came out of Arizona’s win.

That is, with the 5-0 win, the Diamondbacks have now had 10 straight games that have been decided by five runs or more. This marks the longest streak of such in the Modern Era, or since 1900, in data collected by Jesse Friedman.

This streak began on June 7th against the Padres, when San Diego walked away with a 10-3 win over Arizona. The Diamondbacks have gone 6-4 in the 10-game stretch, including a series win over the Angels and the White Sox.

They are also now just one game below .500, bringing them inside a Wild Card spot in the National League if the season were to end today.

The Diamondbacks have a chance to extend their historic streak and even their record to .500 with a win over the Nationals tomorrow. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:10 PM.
