MLB Draft Combine returns to Chase Field for second year

For the second consecutive year, the MLB Draft Combine is heading to the desert, with Chase Field hosting 319 draft-eligible prospects, including 193 collegiate players, and 126 high school athletes from June 18th-23rd

In addition to educational sessions, participants will receive medical tests and performance assessments through the Prospect Development Pipeline. They will also take part in strength tests and a pro-style demonstration workout.

Key dates and times for the event:

  • June 18: On-field workouts from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., followed by the MLB Network Showcase from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and a high school game at 6:00 p.m.
  • June 19: On-field workouts from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • June 20: Strength and conditioning sessions from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The Combine not only focuses on physical assessments but also provides a platform for players to interact with Major League executives, scouting directors, and former MLB stars. Notable attendees from the Commissioner’s Ambassador Program include Michael Bourn, Jeremy Guthrie, and Nick Swisher.

Arizona will be well-represented with several local talents, including:

  • Daniel Avitia, RHP, Grand Canyon University
  • Smith Bailey, RHP, Mountain Ridge High School
  • Cam Caminiti, LHP, Saguaro High School
  • Ryan Campos, C, Arizona State University

MLB Network will provide live coverage from Chase Field on June 18th starting at 1:00 p.m. ET. The broadcast team includes personalities like Greg Amsinger, Jared Carrabis, Jim Callis, Al Leiter, and former MLB stars such as Albert Pujols and Buck Showalter. Special contributors like Michael Bourn and Nick Swisher will also offer insights.

The MLB Draft, presented by Nike, will follow from July 14th to 16th during All-Star Week in Texas, featuring 20 rounds of selections. The Arizona Diamondbacks hold the 29th overall pick, marking their lowest selection since 2016. Last year, they drafted Tommy Troy, a shortstop from Stanford University, with the 12th overall pick.
