On Tuesday, June 10, 2024, news broke that Dan Hurley will be staying with UConn in pursuit of winning a third-straight national championship, per Adrian Wojnarowski. Hurley turned down a six-year, $70 million offer from the Los Angeles Lakers, and agreed to a six-year, $32.1 million deal with the Huskies.

UConn has won two straight national championships with Hurley at the helm, and it will remain a national threat so long as Hurley holds the clipboard.

If Hurley signed with the Lakers, it would have been the biggest coaching hire across the NBA this off-season. However, unfortunately for Lakers fans, the search for a new head coach continues.

Phoenix Mercury star Diana Taurasi is a well-renowned Lakers fan, and spoke on Hurley’s decision to stay with UConn rather than going to Los Angeles.

“I didn’t want him to leave UConn obviously because I love what he does there, I love what he represents,” said Taurasi. “Being a Lakers fan, I would’ve loved for him to be in Los Angeles. The one thing about Dan is he really has a clear focus of what he wants to be as a coach. And right now, that’s being at Connecticut, being himself, coaching the way he coaches. I think that’s an amazing move for him.”
