After missing the first two months of the season due to a ruptured UCL tendon in his right thumb on March 27th, Jordan Lawlar has been reinstated from the 60-day IL by the Reno Aces.

Lawlar is ranked as the Diamondbacks’ #1 prospect and the #8 overall prospect on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 prospects list.

The 21-year-old was drafted in the 1st round, 6th overall, in the 2021 MLB Draft. Lawlar made his major league debut last September, going 4-for-31 at the plate to wrap up the season. While he made the Diamondbacks‘ postseason roster as a pinch-runner, the shortstop did not make the D-backs’ 2024 Opening Day roster due to his thumb injury, which occurred a day before the roster announcement. Instead, Arizona opted for rookie Blaze Alexander to serve as the backup shortstop.

In Triple-A last season, before being called up to make his major league debut, Lawlar excelled against minor league pitchers. Over 16 games, he posted a .358 batting average and hit five home runs.

On May 30th, Lawlar began his rehab assignment in the D-backs’ rookie-level Complex League, where he recorded a .330 batting average with three doubles in seven games.

In his first at-bat back with the Aces, he looped a doubled into right field.

Stay tuned for further updates.
