This season down in Double-A, the 23-year-old right-handed pitcher struck out 77 batters in 54 innings. His best start came on May 2nd when he struck out 11 batters in seven shutout innings. One start later, Diaz struck out 10 batters in six innings while allowing just one earned run.

Diaz leads the entire Texas League with strikeouts (77).

While Diaz excels at generating swings and misses, surpassing almost every other pitcher in Double-A, he struggles with control. Diaz walked 10 batters in his last two starts. On June 7th, he allowed eight earned runs against the Tulsa Drillers, giving up five walks and four hits.

Also receiving a promotion was Landon Sims, who moved from Single-A Visalia to High-A Hillsboro. Sims was drafted in the 1st round of the 2022 draft by the Diamondbacks from Mississippi State University.

After finishing his first season in the minors with an 0-4 record and a 5.47 ERA, Sims has shown improvement this season in Single-A, striking out 10 of the last 12 batters he faced over his final three starts before being promoted.

In total, the 23-year-old has struck out 40 batters in 24.2 innings this season and has allowed just two home runs in this span. Sims is ranked as the Diamondbacks’ #22 prospect.
