Three Phoenix Mercury players are set to represent the USA, those being Diana Taurasi, Brittney Griner, and Kahleah Copper.

Taurasi, 41, will dawn the red, white and blue for the sixth time in her storied career — marking the most most appearance by any player across men’s and women’s basketball.

Griner, 33, will participate in her third Olympics. Griner talked about the importance of representing the United States, and discussed the grind of the Olympics itself.

“To represent your country. You’re on the highest stage, it doesn’t get any higher than that,” Griner said when asked about the significance of playing in the Olympics. “Anytime you get to put on the red, white, and blue USA across our chests, we know we’re going to get every country’s best shot. So it’s just a different level of play. It’s a different level of intensity and practice, and you’re just playing for so much more.”

Unlike Taurasi and Griner, this will be Copper’s first time playing in the Olympics.

“I can’t wait to go, I can’t wait that my teammate [Kahleah Copper] is going to be with me,” Griner said.

Copper, 29, is having a career-year in her first season with the Mercury. Copper is averaging 24 points per game, proving to be a valued addition to Phoenix’s core.
