Against the Tacoma Raiders, Hill tossed 4.1 innings while allowing six runs in the Aces’ 9-2 loss. It was Hill’s first-ever appearance in Triple-A. The Raiders smacked a pair of home runs off Hill while also drawing four walks.

Before his promotion, the 25-year-old had a 7.53 ERA over 10 starts with the Sod Poodles. In 2023, he made 25 starts in Double-A, recording a 4.35 ERA. Hill was originally signed to a minor league contract in the summer of 2021. A year later, in July 2022, Hill was named the Diamondbacks’ minor league pitcher of the month.

After the Aces’ loss on Friday, manager Blake Lalli commented on the positive aspects of Hill’s first Triple-A start, noting, “I knew he was someone who wasn’t scared of the challenge and would attack hitters and stuff like that. For the most part, he did that. You know, he had some walks in there but he did a pretty good job in his first outing for us.”

The Aces are currently in a similar position as the Diamondbacks, standing three games below .500 and fourth in their division.
