The Diamondbacks dodged an injury bullet with their MVP candidate, who appeared to tweak his back in his final at-bat on Friday. Blaze Alexander was inserted into the lineup at second base for Saturday’s game against San Diego. It’s unclear when Marte will return to the lineup, but a stint on the injured list seems unlikely.
Ketel Marte and Gabriel Moreno scratched from Diamondbacks lineup
Gabriel Moreno was also scratched from the lineup. Moreno has an illness, similar to the one that resulted in Lourdes Gurriel Jr. getting scratched from a game in the Mets series last weekend.
Injury Updates
- Zac Gallen is throwing from flat ground. A bullpen session is likely the next step, then they’ll decide the process on getting him back in the rotation. Gallen suffered a right hamstring strain in his start against the Mets on May 30, and could spend a minimal amount of time on the injured list.
- Alek Thomas ran the bases, with his spikes on. Thomas has been out since March 31 with a left hamstring strain. He was close to returning a month ago, but experienced a setback and has had to start almost all over.
- Miguel Castro is throwing from flat ground and felt good. Castro was placed on the IL with right-shoulder inflammation on April 23.
