After playing a large role in the Diamondbacks’ Cinderella run to the World Series last season, Tommy Pham has finally found a new home, signing a one-year, $3 million contract with the Chicago White Sox, per Bob Nightengale at USA Today.

The White Sox mark Pham’s 8th different team since 2018, which is the most among all active players. These other teams include the St. Louis Cardinals, Tampa Bay Rays, San Diego Padres, Cincinnati Reds, Boston Red Sox, the New York Mets, and the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Pham was traded to the Diamondbacks from New York just before the trade deadline last season, with the Mets receiving 17-year-old prospect Jeremy Rodriguez in return. Rodriguez posted a .422 batting average in 13 games during the Dominican Summer League.

During Pham’s time with the D-backs, Pham had several crucial postseason performances, including multiple four-hit games—one in Game 1 of the NLDS and another in Game 2 of the World Series.

It was Pham’s 4th postseason run, making him a valuable veteran leader inside Arizona’s clubhouse.

One moment in particular illustrated Pham’s reputation as a congenial and team-oriented player. After picking up four hits in Game 2 of the World Series, contributing to the Diamondbacks’ commanding 9-1 lead, Pham chose to be pinch-hit for, allowing teammate Jace Peterson to experience his first World Series at-bat.

When fans initially attacked Torey Lovullo, as they wanted to see Pham get his 5th hit, he went to Instagram to clarify the situation, explaining, ‘I asked Torey can Jace hit for me I wanted my dawg to get his first World Series at bat stop this narrative please.’

While there was some speculation in the beginning of the offseason that the Diamondbacks would bring Pham back, they instead opted to re-sign Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and add Joc Pederson as further outfield depth.
