The Phoenix Local Organizing Committee (PLOC) and NCAA worked together on Tuesday morning to display a series of “Cactus Basketball Hoops” ahead of the 2024 Men’s Finals Four.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Scottsdale Mayor David Ortega was present to unveil his city’s hoop, as well as PLOC CEO Jay Parry and artist Paul Molina.
This hoop in particular is placed on the Marshall Way Bridge in Old Town Scottsdale.
The Hoops meaning
“Two of the hoops, including this one, were graphically designed by Paul Molina, a Hispanic and Indigenous Arizona Artist,” Parry said. “The other two are embellished with elements from the NCAA visual identity of the Men’s Final Four.”
Each hoop has been individually designed and has specific meanings to both the community and the Final Four.
“The Cactus Hoops design is representative of the spirit of Arizona,” Molina said. “It also depicts the traditional imagery associated with the Indigenous population, paying homage to those who inhabited the land.”
The Final Four will happen at State Farm Stadium in Glendale on April 6 and April 8. This is just one of several events that Phoenix and the NCAA have put together.
