The defending champions finally secured their first win of the new season. Rising from the ashes of three consecutive losses, Phoenix beat the Oakland Roots SC 1-0.

The first half of the game was quiet, with neither side scoring a goal. But Phoenix was dominating by maintaining 60% of the possession and taking five shots on goal compared to the two shots by the Roots. Oaklands keeper, Paul Blaunchette, was making some great saves from the bombardment Phoenix was throwing his way.
At the 48 minute mark was when Midfielder Panos Armenakas made the one goal of the game, with an assist from Defender Juan Carlos Azocar. The remaining time of the second half was spent holding the lead.

Having the 1-0 lead lit a fire in the hearts of the Rising. Though they had possession of the ball for a shorter amount of time during the second half, they made their moments count by taking even more shots on goal.
Playing hard through the end, Phoenix was able to celebrate their success with the 6,000 fans in attendance.

Achieving his first victory as the Rising Head Coach, Danny Stone said, “I’m delighted for the players.” He continued by saying, “It’s been a couple of weeks where we asked some questions and they continued to work. Tonight, I felt the team completely deserved a victory. The effort and performance they gave tonight was deserving of a victory.”

The Rising have one more week playing to the cheers of their fan on their home turf, before taking off to Tulsa Oklahoma. They will be playing against the New Mexico United FC on Saturday March 30, at 7:30 p.m.
