The Los Angeles Chargers released former seventh-overall pick Mike Williams to clear up cap space this week. Williams spent seven seasons in Los Angeles and will now have an opportunity to test free agency.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! This move was strictly financial based and freed up a much-needed $20 million from the Chargers’ cap space. Unfortunately for Williams, he was the player to be negatively affected by the team’s cap struggles.
Arizona is now in a position to take advantage of cuts and players available through trade considering their available cap space. They currently have over $40 million in cap space, which increased with the release of offensive tackle D.J. Humphries.
Four players the Arizona Cardinals should consider signing during the second wave of free agency
The Cardinals desperately need consistent mid/high-level wide receiver play for quarterback Kyler Murray to succeed.
With the recent trade of Rondale Moore, second-year wide receiver Michael Wilson and 25-year-old Greg Dortch are the only stable players at the position.
Standing at 6-foot-4 and over 215 pounds, Williams is one of the most explosive outside receivers in the league and is often considered the best at securing 50/50 balls. He has put together two 1000+ yard seasons and has averaged over 15 yards per reception through seven seasons.

What has held the former Clemson WR from joining elite status is his inability to stay on the field. Williams appeared in just three games before suffering from a torn ACL last season.
Considering that he is coming off a major injury, Arizona may feel better giving the 29-year-old a short-term, prove-it deal before securing him long-term.
The addition of Williams, along with drafting a wide receiver fourth-overall in the upcoming draft will give Murray and Arizona the weapons they need on offense.
