Originally, the Footprint Center – while dawning different names throughout its existence – has hosted three NBA All-Star Games in 1975, 1995 and 2009.

Star-Studded Impact

Being the mecca of basketball during one of the league’s biggest showcases every year, there are massive benefits to each state and the surrounding communities.

Financially, businesses grow based on the overall support of natives and tourists alike roaming around each city and attending these monumental events.

Katie Hobbs, governor of Arizona, talked during a press conference Thursday about what the festivities will do for her state then and into the future.

“Arizona has shown time and time again that we are the best, and most unique place for these major sporting events,” Hobbs said. “These events are huge economic drivers for Arizona, and do so much to support the small businesses that make our state so great.”

“The estimated impact is $400 million and that is huge – something that will have a lasting impact far beyond All-Star Weekend. I talk to so many people that come to Arizona for events like this, and they end up coming back again and again and again because our whole state rises to the occasion. Our hospitality and tourism industry is able to provide people with such a great experience. There is so much to offer besides just what All-Star Weekend has to offer basketball fans.”

Phoenix Suns majority owner Mat Ishbia chimed in on another edition of this spectacle in Arizona, citing that he is excited about what the city and himself can both provide when it eventually comes back.

“Phoenix is the ultimate basketball destination and we are excited for fans from around the world to experience our amazing city,” Ishbia said. “We will provide an NBA All-Star Weekend unlike any other, showcasing the passion of our fans, our city and everything that we’re building here.”

The 2027 NBA All-Star Weekend is scheduled to take place Feb. 19-21 that year.
