On Monday afternoon, the Phoenix Suns brought back Ish Wainright on a two-way contract, putting the team into a conundrum.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! With the addition of Wainright, Phoenix exceeded the NBA limit of three players who can be signed to a two-way deal. As a result, the Suns had to either waive one of Théo Maledon, Udoka Azubuike, or Saben Lee or convert one of their deals to an NBA standard contract.
But as time passed by, senior NBA insider for outlet HoopsHype Michael Scotto broke the news of Phoenix’s decision.
“The Phoenix Suns are waiving Theo Maledon,” Scotto said.

Back on Dec. 17, 2023, Maledon was originally signed by the Suns and made his debut on Feb. 8 against the Utah Jazz.
In four games for Phoenix, the French international averaged 1.3 points and 0.3 rebounds per game. Not starting once, head coach Frank Vogel utilized Maledon as a bench player.
The 34th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers has played 177 total games. With the Suns, Charlotte Hornets and Oklahoma City Thunder, Maledon has averaged 7.8 points, 2.9 assists and 2.8 rebounds during his four-year career overall.
Now being a free agent, Maledon will search for another opportunity in the NBA.
As for Wainright, he will be able to make his Suns return as soon as tomorrow when they face the Denver Nuggets at 8 p.m. MST.
