What Charles Barkley and Kevin Garnett say the Suns biggest position of need is

The Suns are 20-18 this season, despite championship expectations, and have only played in seven games with the team’s Big 3, going 3-4 in those contests.

Recent reports by Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes suggest the Suns are scouring the trade market for an athletic wing. However, that is not what Barkley and Garnett think will solve the Suns’ season.

Before and during halftime of the Suns’ 127-109 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers Thursday, Barkley said on TNT that the Suns need some fixing. He suggested they should “find a point guard and maybe another big.”

Garnett had a similar sentiment for what the Suns need: a point guard. He gave a specific name, Tyus Jones, as someone who the Suns should target.

“(The Suns) need a point guard,” Garnett said on his Podcast, Ticket and The Truth. “That’s why that s— look like that. They need a real point guard … I don’t want Booker coming down consolidating.”

Jones is in the second season of a 2-year, $29 million deal and would likely cost the Suns giving up one of Grayson Allen or Jusuf Nurkić. What the Suns could offer is likely less than what other teams will try to get Jones for. If a point guard is not Phoenix’s priority, it is hard to see them trading away key assets for Jones or any other point guard on a large contract.

It might be too early to judge if a point guard is the Suns’ biggest position of need, but it definitely would not hurt to have at least one on the roster.
