Two Former Sun Devils Will Be Competing in the National Championship

The College Football National Championship is set. It will be #1 Michigan versus #2 Washington after one of the best semifinal rounds we have ever seen. In the spirit of the National Championship, I decided to look at each team and see if any former Sun Devils were on them. There are two.

There is one former ASU player on each team. For Michigan, you have Left Tackle LaDarius Henderson. On Washington, you have Kick Returner Daniyel Ngata. These players have had different seasons, but both will get their chance at a National Title next week.

LaDarius Henderson, LT, Michigan

Henderson transferred to Michigan last season as a four-star tackle transfer. The Grad Student broke his hand in his senior season and missed the last six games. Henderson was a captain for ASU. He joined the Wolverines and instantly made an impact. He debuted on December 2nd versus ECU but didn’t start until the first conference game versus Nebraska. How’d he do? He won Big 10 Offensive Player of the Week. The Left Tackle started every game the rest of the year, winning another Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against Michigan State. Henderson was named First Team All-Big 10 along with future top-10 pick Olumuyiwa Fashanu. He will be the starting Left Tackle for Michigan in the National Championship.

Daniyel Ngata, KR, Washington

Ngata transferred to Washington as a three-star RB. Ngata was a role running back who only had 700 yards in three seasons with Arizona State. The underclassman actually became a return man during his final season at Arizona State. He had 18 returns for 451 yards. So, when Ngata transferred to Washington, he became solely a kick returner. Ngata has only got seven carries for 23 yards and a touchdown. However, the Junior has 16 returns for 380 yards on kick returns. He did not have a return in the Sugar Bowl, though.

Both of these players will have huge roles for their teams in the National title, so Arizona State fans have a couple of players to cheer on this Saturday.
