Accardo is known by Arizona’s hockey community for her courageous battle on and off the ice.
In 2020, Accardo passed away at the age of nine from cancer, but enjoyed playing hockey and being a fan of the local NHL team here in the valley.

“We are excited to host our fourth annual Skatin’ for Leighton in celebration of a very special person to the entire Arizona Coyotes organization,” said Coyotes president and CEO Xavier A. Gutierrez in a press release. “Leighton’s strength, courage and passion for hockey were an inspiration to our entire team. We are proud to work closely with our great partners at Phoenix Children’s and Arizona State University to keep her memory alive.”
