Arizona State Volleyball Lands Washington State Setter Argentina Ung

Arizona State Volleyball is attacking the portal. Argentina Ung, a Setter from Washington State, announced her transfer to ASU today.

The grad student from Mexico was one of the top setters in the Pac-12 last year. She started for the Cougars the previous two seasons and made it over 1200 assists each time. Last year, she was an All-American Honorable Mention after finishing with 1297 assists. She finished in the top 10 in total assists in D1 last season.

Ung also can pound the ball. She has over 100 kills in the last two seasons. She even had 97 kills in her Sophomore season despite playing in only 55 sets. This skill set is rare for a Setter and could be a huge addition to the rotation.

This is a huge pickup for the Sun Devils, who want to compete again. They lost their All-Pac 12 Honorable Mention Setter Shannon Shields to graduation, so they needed a quick replacement. Ung is about as close as possible to replicating Shields’s production and only has one year of eligibility. This is a fantastic grab for JJ Van Niel, who just landed in West Virginia Outside Bailey Miller last week.
