Sunnyslope’s Start To The Season

The Vikings (3-2) started the season with two straight wins but then dropped the following two against Millennium and St. John Bosco.

They then faced the Perry Pumas in a rematch of the open state championship game from last year, where Sunnyslope fell short.

Sunnyslope defeated Perry in a nailbiter 53-52, proving that they are still that competitive team.

The team’s star player thus far in the season has been sophomore guard John Mattingly. Mattingly is averaging 18.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 6.5 assists through the first four games.

Mountain View’s Strong Start

The Toros (3-1) started the new season with three blowout victories but lost their last game 47-34 against the Corona del Sol Aztecs.

In contrast to the Vikings, Mountain View did not make a deep one in the state’s first open state championship.

They entered the playoffs as the No. 17 seed and lost 81-67 to Pinnacle.

The Toros have started the season on a strong note and will look to continue to try and build momentum as the season progresses.

Matchup Outlook

This is a crucial matchup for both teams as beating a great team can provide momentum for the rest of the season.

The Vikings will attempt to build off their win against Perry and prove they are a team to beat in the state. Mountain View can prove that they are capable of beating a championship-contending team.

Tune in Monday night for what may be an incredible matchup.
