Not done yet: Diamondbacks’ ongoing offseason surge

Arizona Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen speaks to the media ahead of their NLCS matchup against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on Oct. 15, 2023.

Attempting to build off the momentum that they gained during their remarkable 2023 run to the World Series, Mike Hazen and the Arizona Diamondbacks have already been one of the most active teams this offseason.

Immediately after their elimination by the Texas Rangers in Game 5 of the World Series, Mike Hazen outlined his plan this winter.

He made it clear that the Diamondbacks would love a third baseman, 1-2 more starting arms, and potentially a power-hitting DH that can also help out in the outfield.

Already, the Diamondbacks have checked off two of those goals. First by signing 3B Eugenio Suarez, and second by signing LHP Eduardo Rodríguez a couple of days ago.

This leaves one or two more wants left on the list, and Mike Hazen has made it explicitly clear that he is not done making a splash.

After signing Eduardo Rodriguez last week, club GM Mike Hazen spoke with Nick Piecoro at the Arizona Republic about his plan going forward.

For starters, Hazen admitted to Piecoro that since the Diamondbacks did get Rodriguez, they now have “higher priorities” outside another starting pitcher.

Instead, Hazen is focused on a bat, declaring, “We’re going to focus on offense right now. We’re not done yet.”

Some names that have reportedly peaked the D-backs interest are Jorge Soler, J.D. Martinez, and Justin Turner.

If the Diamondbacks can successfully acquire another slugger, then it is no question that they will have one of the premier lineups in the National League heading into next season.
