Loss To Red Mountain

The Broncos (10-4) entered the 6A conference playoffs as the No. 1 seed but unfortunately fell short to Red Mountain in the semifinal.

The team pulled out two convincing victories to start the playoffs against Mesa and Casteel, outsourcing them 66-24.

Successful Season

Despite the disappointing 36-35 loss to Red Mountain, players in their last year with the team are proud of the season they had.

Senior quarterback Charlie McGinnis had an incredible final season with the team, totaling 3076 yards and 40 touchdowns.

“I’m extremely proud of our team, we went from 3-8 to 10-3. I’m very proud of my senior class and how we turned things around and of course proud of the whole team,” McGinnis said. “Didn’t end the way we wanted wish we could have been playing today but it shouldn’t take away the great season we had.”

The team lost their very first game of the season but did not let that affect their confidence going forward.

“Coming off of the opening game loss to Williams Field, you could tell that the team was afraid of having a repeat of the 2022 season,” senior defensive lineman Brandon Bryne said. “Our seniors wouldn’t let it happen, though. The team rallied behind our leaders, and it took us to a high level of football we all knew we could play.”

Head Coach Jason Jewell

Jason Jewell became head coach in 2019 and has given his team all the confidence in the world. He emphasized how they need to use this loss as motivation in the future.

“Coach Jewell and our coaches pointed out that there’s nothing to hang our heads about,” senior defensive back Dominic Mitchell said. “We just need to remember the bad taste left in our mouths and use it to put in the work in the offseason.”

Despite not achieving their goal of winning the conference championship, the season was more than successful and gives the program something to build on going forward.
