Tommy Pham’s explanation for 9th inning pinch-hit sheds light on team unity

Arizona Diamondbacks designated hitter Tommy Pham (28) hits a double against the Texas Rangers during the sixth inning in game two of the 2023 World Series at Globe Life Field on Oct. 28, 2023, in Arlington, Texas.

In Game 2 of the World Series, with the Diamondbacks leading the Rangers 7-1, Tommy Pham had an opportunity to pick up his 5th hit of the game, which would have broken a World Series record.

However, when it was time for Pham to step up to the plate, it wasn’t him, but Jace Peterson who emerged, preparing for his very first World Series at-bat.

Before the 9th inning, Pham had been flawless, going 4-4 on the night, which included two doubles and two runs scored.

It was his second four-hit game of this postseason, with the other coming against the Dodgers in the NLDS.

Following the Diamondbacks’ resounding 9-1 victory, Pham took to Instagram to clarify that it was not Manager Torey Lovullo’s decision to replace him with Jace Peterson.

Instead, it was Tommy Pham’s choice. In his comment, he stated, ‘I asked Torey can Jace hit for me I wanted my dawg to get his first World Series at bat stop this narrative please.’

While both Tommy Pham and Jace Peterson just recently joined the Diamondbacks at the trade deadline, it is obvious that the chemistry that this team has formed is a large reason why they are just three wins away from a World Series Championship.

As Torey Lovullo has said over and over again, ” A connected team is a dangerous team.”
