Tonight on Sunday Night Football, we have a match-up that is full of creamer as two of the best teams in the NFL are going at it. The (5-1) Philadelphia Eagles host the (5-1) Miami Dolphins. The Philadelphia Eagles are favored to win this game by three points. The Eagles have one of the best defenses in the NFL. Miami has the number one ranked offense. Philadelphia may have the perfect defense to slow down the Dolphins. Miami is great at both running and passing the ball. The Eagles may be able to take away their rushing game. Miami is currently without rookie running back De’Von Achane who has been great so far this season.
The absence of Achane along with going against the number two ranked rushing defense may lead to Miami struggling to run the ball. The Eagles are only giving up 65 rushing yards per game. Making Miami one dimensional will not stop them but it can slow them down.
The Dolphins are also a great passing team. One way to slow down a great passing attack is to get pressure on the quarterback. The Eagles pressure the opposing quarterback on 29.1% of their drop backs. This is fourth best in the NFL.
Philadelphia’s ability to both stop the run and pressure the quarterback will lead to a Eagles win by more than three points.
DeVonta Smith Over 55.5 Receiving Yards
The Miami Dolphins have given up the 11th most passing yards in the NFL so far this season. Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown has had over 100 yards receiving in four of the Eagles six games.
Miami doesn’t want to be team number five on that list. The attention that Brown will receive from the defense may result in lots of single coverage opportunities for DeVonta Smith.
Smith would be a number one wide receiver on most teams. The Dolphins have to pick their poison and with that choice Smith will get to shine tonight. DeVonta Smith should go well over 55.5 receiving yards.
