How Zac Gallen stacked up against the Dodgers this season

Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Zac Gallen (23) pitches during the first inning of Game 2 of the NL wild-card playoff series against the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday October 4, 2023 at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wis.

While this season has undeniably been a rollercoaster ride for Diamondbacks’ ace Zac Gallen, the Los Angeles Dodgers, in particular, have posed a challenge for the 28-year-old right-hander.

In 2022, Gallen squared off against the Dodgers twice, he picked up wins on both occasions while conceding just one earned run over 14 innings.

However, this year, the narrative has taken a sharp turn for Gallen when facing his NL West rivals.

In the regular season, Gallen encountered the Los Angeles lineup twice: once in March and once in August. These encounters resulted in two losses for Zac, with a total of 11 earned runs surrendered over a combined 10 innings.

The 11 earned runs allowed by Gallen in 2023 eclipsed his previous seven starts against the Dodgers dating back to 2020.

Now, Gallen finds himself taking the mound in LA for the National League Divisional Series, with an opportunity to give his team a commanding 2-0 series lead.

As for the Dodgers, they will be sending Bobby Miller to the mound.

Miller, who had two starts against the Diamondbacks in August during the regular season, secured two wins while conceding four earned runs across 12 innings.

Game 2 will be Miller’s first postseason start as he recently made his MLB debut back in May.

First pitch for this Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks matchup is scheduled for 6 PM MST.
