The Arizona Diamondbacks will hand the ball over to their ace Zac Gallen for Game 2 of the Wild Card series against the Brewers.

Despite a slight dip in his performance compared to 2022, Gallen maintained a commendable ERA of 3.47 and secured 17 wins.

Because of this, the 28-year-old attended his first All Star game back in July.

However, one area of concern for Gallen has been his performance on the road. While he boasted an impressive 12-3 record with a 2.47 ERA when pitching at home in Arizona, his away record was less convincing at 5-6 with a 4.42 ERA over 18 games started.

Notably, his strikeout-to-walk ratio also exhibited a significant disparity between home (6.67 So/W) and away (3.45 So/W) games.

On a brighter note, Gallen has faced the Brewers earlier in the season, making two starts—one at home and one on the road. During these outings, he allowed just one earned run across 14 innings and struck out 15 batters.

The Diamondbacks won both of these games with a combined point differential of +7.

Now, in the 5th season of his career, Zac Gallen will take the mound for the first time in the postseason.

With the Wild Card series adopting a best-of-three format, Gallen has the opportunity to either propel the Diamondbacks to the next round or salvage their season, contingent on the outcome of tonight’s crucial matchup.

First pitch for Game 1 of this Wild Card series is set for 4pm.
