Meanwhile, in another corner of the National League race, the Diamondbacks staged an impressive come-from-behind victory against the White Sox, significantly boosting their postseason aspirations.

After trailing 4-1 early on, Arizona’s offense scored 12 unanswered runs.

And, while the Diamondbacks were completing this comeback, the Chicago Cubs suffered a heartbreaking collapse against the Braves.

The Cubs had a comfortable 5-0 lead as they entered the 6th inning, only to squander it and eventually succumb to a 6-5 loss.

Playing a large part in this collapse was a dropped pop fly by Cubs’ outfielder Seiya Suzuki, which handed Atlanta the lead in a moment that left fans stunned.

As a consequence of this heart-wrenching loss, the Cubs now cling to a slender half-game lead over the Marlins for the third and final Wild Card spot.

This costly error also played into the hands of the surging Diamondbacks, who now enjoy a one-game advantage over the Cubs in the Wild Card race.

Beneath these three closely contested teams are the Reds, trailing by 1.5 games, as well as the Giants, who find themselves facing a more substantial deficit of 4.5 games in their quest for a Wild Card spot.
