The exciting slate of September 22nd MLB games has concluded, and the NL Wild Card race continues to live up to the hype as nobody seems to want the final two playoff spots.
However, if a winner of the day was declared, it would have to be the San Diego Padres.
After completing a late-game rally against the Cardinals to secure their 8th-straight win, the Padres now trail the National League Wild Card spot by just four games.
Let’s take a closer look at how the other teams in contention fared today:
Marlins: 16-1 loss vs. Brewers
Cubs: 6-0 win vs. Rockies
Reds: 7-5 loss vs. Pirates
Diamondbacks: 7-1 loss vs. Yankees
Giants: 5-1 win vs. Dodgers
Essentially, among the six teams battling for two spots, half celebrated wins, while the other half faced disappointing losses.
Although the Diamondbacks managed to retain the second Wild Card position, holding a slim one-game lead, the Cubs, following their win over the Rockies, have regained control of the third spot.
Meanwhile, the Marlins are now 1-game back, Reds trail by 2 games, Giants trail by 3.5, and Padres have cut their deficit to 4.
Just eight games remain, who will take the final two spots?
