Cardinals move Tempe Native from the Practice Squad to the Active Roster

The Arizona Cardinals have signed defensive tackle Roy Lopez from the practice squad to the active roster. This move comes after the Cardinals placed defensive tackle Carlos Watkins on injured reserve. Watkins hurt his biceps against the New York Giants and needs surgery to repair the injury. Watkins had seven tackles, one tackle for loss, and one sack in the first two games.

Lopez is originally from Tempe, Arizona. He played his high school football at Mesquite. Then went on to play at the University of New Mexico before finishing his college ball at the University of Arizona for his final year of eligibility. In his college career he had 123 total tackles, 23.5 of those tackles were for loss. Lopez also had nine sacks while in college.

Lopez was a sixth round pick by the Houston Texans in the 2021 NFL Draft. In his first two seasons the Tempe native saw the field a lot. He played in 33 games, 29 of those being starts. The former Arizona Wildcat has 67 total tackles and two sacks so far in his pro career. He will add some much depth to the defensive line for the Cardinals.
