With October coming upon us, The Diamondbacks are in a position where a win streak could mean playing playoff baseball. The Arizona Diamondbacks have five games over the next six days all against Wildcard competitors. Arizona also recently went on a road rip where they played eight games in eight days, and are right back at it.
Tonight is the start of maybe the most important six days of the season, with matchups against the Cubs and the Giants. The Cubs currently hold a 2.5 game lead over the Diamondbacks, along with two other teams who are also tied for the third Wildcard spot. Arizona recently took three of four against the Cubs in a series in Chicago. Despite the series win, the Diamondbacks weren’t able to hold their lead for the third Wildcard spot. Arizona dropped three of four to the Mets right after that.
The Diamondbacks have a two game set after they host the Cubs, against the Giants. San Francisco and Arizona are both tied for the third Wildcard spot, along with the Reds. Over the past month or so, no team has been able to get a leg up over the other. Now is Arizonas chance. The Giants have been in a team wide hitting slump and the Diamondbacks need to strike at home.
Control what you can control
If the Diamondbacks can find a way to win four of their next five, they will put themselves in a spot to play in October. Arizona is one of the few teams who truly control their destiny. The Diamondbacks start the three game set tonight in Phoenix against the Cubs. First pitch will be thrown at 6:40 pm PST with Brandon Pfaadt on the bump.
