Diamondbacks Drop Game Three in the Big Apple

The Arizona Diamondbacks played the third game of the series against the New York Mets tonight and lost 7-1. Zac Gallen got the start for the Diamondbacks, and for the third time in four starts, got knocked around a bit.

Highlights from the hill

The Diamondbacks all-star pitcher Zac Gallen threw five innings, allowing six runs on eight hits, two walks and four strikeouts. This start is Gallens third start of his previous four that he gave up more than five runs without completing six innings. Gallen received the loss in todays game, dropping his record to 15-8 on the year. Arizona however threw three more pitchers throughout the game, each throwing just one inning. Saalfrank, Castro and Frías didn’t give up any runs in the remainder of the game, and only three hits.

New York threw three arms throughout the ball game, Lucchesi starting and completing seven innings. Lucchesi didn’t give up any runs on five hits, three walks and two strikeouts. Joey Lucchesi also received the win in tonight’s game, his record is now 3-0.

It was a quiet night from the plate for the Diamondbacks, only collecting six hits all game. Arizonas only hitter to have multiple hits was Lourdes Gurriel Jr, who had a single and a double. Marte, Pham, Lawlar, and McCarthy all also had hits tonight. The Diamondbacks solo run tonight came from an RBI off the bat of Tommy Pham.

The Diamondbacks record moves to 76-71 after the loss, and they’re tied with the Reds for the third Wildcard spot. Arizona and New York will play the final game of the four game set tomorrow, with a 1:10 first pitch. Merrill Kelly will be pitching for the Diamondbacks.
