Diamondbacks Drop Series Finale in Chicago

Game four in the series featuring the Arizona Diamondbacks traveling to Chicago to go up against the Cubs, saw a Cubs win. Arizona did however win the series, taking three game to the Cubs one. The final score was 5-2.

Highlights from the hill

Arizona sent three total pitchers to the hill throughout the game, Brandon Pfaadt doing the bulk of the work. Joe Mantiply started the game for the Diamondbacks, going just one and a third inning. Mantiply allowed one earned run off of two hits, no walk or strikeouts. Scott McGough also briefly saw the hill in todays action, throwing just two thirds of an inning, walking one and striking one out. McCough didn’t allow any hits, or runs. Pfaadt through six complete innings from the second on. He allowed four runs off of seven hits, surrendering one walk, and punching out four. 

Chicago also threw their fair share of pitchers. The Cubs sent five pitchers to the bump, allowing nine hits, two earned runs, striking out six hitters. Kyle Hendricks did the bulk of the work for Chicago, throwing five and two thirds innings. Hendricks allowed both of the Diamondbacks runs, along with seven hits, one walk, and struck out four. 

Performance at the plate

Arizona hit the ball well, but they weren’t able to do so with runners on base. The Diamondbacks left eight runners on base, to Chicago’s five. Arizona tallied nine total hits in the game, coming from seven hitters. Tommy Pham and Seby Zavala both had multiple hit games. Pham singled and doubles, Zavala singled twice. 

Arizona gave up three of Chicago’s five earned runs via the home run. Joe Mantiply’s record goes to 1-2 after receiving the loss. The Diamondbacks are still holding the third Wildcard spot, now just a half a game up. Arizona stays on the road, heading to New York tomorrow night to take on the Mets for a 4:10 PST first pitch. Arizona now has a record of 75-69.
