“The funky thing about the NFL draft process is, he’d almost be better off not being drafted than being drafted first. The system is completely backwards,” Carl Williams says. “The way the system is constructed, you go to the worst possible situation. The worst possible team, the worst organization in the league—because of their desire for parity—gets the first pick. So it’s the gift and the curse. I mean, I’ve talked to Archie Manning—his career was shot because he went to a horrible organization. I’ve talked to Lincoln [Riley], and Kyler [Murray] struggled because of where he was drafted.”

Carl Williams mentioning Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray as an example of a player going to a bad organization. Is a direct message to the Cardinals. Carl is letting Arizona know that Caleb Williams has options outside of playing here.

The University of Southern California quarterback is a junior and has another of year college eligibility. Williams could very well go back to school. Now, is that the smartest move? Probably not, why risk injury in college when you can start your NFL career early. Williams could also pull a John Elway/ Eli Manning type move and demand a trade away from the team that picks him.

There are a lot things that have to happen before the Cardinals have the chance to draft him. It looks like the Williams family is putting all the bad teams on notice that Caleb Williams will not be trapped in a bad situation.

Could Caleb Williams Refuse to Play for the Cardinals?
