WATCH: Arizona State Football Coaches Interviews after 8/20 Practice

The Arizona State football team held its 17th practice overall this fall today, but its first inside the bubble.

The Sun Devils moved inside halfway through practice to simulate crowd noise for the defense.

Trenton Bourguet saw more time with the first team than Jaden Rashada today, especially in walkthrough segments.

However, coach Kenny Dillingham continued to not make a decision for the starting QB job and said that “all options are on the table” for who it could be.

There are some other position battles going on as well, like who will win the starting running back job, who will be the starting slot receiver, who gets the second linebacker spot next to WSU grad transfer Travion Brown and a few other rotations that still need to be worked out.

While Dillingham wants the quarterback job to be announced by Thursday, he said that some of these other battles might still be up in the air.

“Other positions (than QB), you can rotate guys,” he said. “You don’t have to have a declared starter.”

The first-team linebacker position next to Brown has been occupied by a rotation of four to five different players since the dismissal of JuJu Mitchell.

Linebackers coach A.J. Cooper knows there’s still some time (11 days until the team’s first game) to figure it out, but he has a general plan.

“We’re gonna keep these guys sharp by competition the whole year,” Cooper said, “because I believe that’s going to help the team if God forbid we do get an injury.”

Cooper added: “Ultimately, as a coach, you want to put your players in the best situation to be successful. If certain guys fit the run better, certain guys play the past better, certain guys are better blitzers … That’s part of my responsibility to have the best guys on the field.”

The Sun Devils have tomorrow off and then resume practice on Tuesday.

I logged all of the plays from the team drills (11-on-11s and 7-on-7s) the last two days, so I will have an extensive report and my takeaways coming soon.
