For just the second time this season, the Arizona Diamondbacks have been shut out on offense. Three hits were all Arizona could scratch away with in their 4-0 loss to the Mariners on Sunday.

With Merrill Kelly on the mound for the D-backs, Seattle jumped out to an early lead, which is something that they did in every game this series.

The Mariners were able to capitalize right away on Kelly’s mistake, as a leadoff walk came back to bite. While Kelly did get out of the inning with Seattle stranding the bases loaded, two runs had already crossed the plate.

After allowing three runs in the first two innings, Kelly and the Diamondbacks bullpen settled down nicely. Unfortunately, the bats never got anything rolling.

Three hits from Arizona’s offense marked a new season low. To make matters worse, all three hits were singles and just one player reached second base all afternoon.

Geraldo Perdomo, Ketel Marte, & Corbin Carroll combined for six strikeouts at the top of the order.

All in all, the Diamondbacks have now lost three series’ in a row, marking another record on the year. They are also now a full game behind in the NL wild card race after once being tied for the best record in the league.

Next up is a critical series against division rival San Francisco Giants. This four-game series will begin tomorrow at 6:45 with Ryne Nelson on the mound.
