Corbin Carroll strengthened his Rookie of the Year case with a Saturday afternoon walk-off base-hit to give the Diamondbacks a 3-2 win over the Pirates.

It was Carroll’s 2nd walk-off of the season, and it came just two days after he departed early due to shoulder discomfort.

This type of bounce-back could only be achieved by the rookie All-Star.

But this walk-off was not the only highlight from the Diamondbacks win over the Pirates.

Whether it was a bullpen that delivered when needed or a solo home run from Alek Thomas to tie the game in the 8th inning, the Diamondbacks illustrated their resilience in an all-out team victory.

A whopping seven different pitchers were used in a designated bullpen day for the D-backs. These seven pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts and allowed just four hits.

Tyler Gilbert, in his first appearance of the season, tossed three innings and allowed just one run. Additionally, Scott McGough picked up his first win of the season by striking out the side in the 9th and allowing just the ghost runner to score in the 10th. This appearance may have solidified McGough as the Diamondbacks top reliever in their bullpen.

With the comeback win, the D-backs secured a series victory over the Pirates, gaining the momentum that they needed as they head into the All-Star break. Their lead over the Dodgers now stands at one game.

It will be Zach Davies on the mound tomorrow for a chance at the sweep. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 PM.
