After a promising start, the Arizona Diamondbacks have fallen into a bit of a slump over the past few weeks, just ahead of the trade deadline.

Over their past ten games, the Diamondbacks are 2-8, have slumped into 3rd place in the NL West, and hold just a .5 game lead over the Phillies for a Wild Card spot.

Not to mention, Arizona is looking ahead to one of the hardest remaining schedules in the league. This includes series’ against the Braves, Reds, Mariners, Giants, Twins, Orioles, Mets, Yankees, Padres, and Dodgers.

With that being said, the Diamondbacks are heading into one of the most critical trade deadlines in franchise history. It has been five years since the Diamondbacks have made the postseason, and it would be a shame to let such an opportunity go to waste this season.

And nobody knows this more than General Manager Mike Hazen, who has repeatedly stated the Diamondbacks will be buyers over the next few weeks.

“I’m hoping we finish off these next two weeks and we’re hardcore buyers.”

However, Hazen also knows that the Diamondbacks cannot afford to be reckless considering the young talent that they are holding onto.

Hazen told Arizona Sports’ Bickley & Marotta:

“We’re going to be willing to make trades, to add to this team if it becomes available, but … there’s a difference between being aggressive and being reckless. I don’t think it serves the organization short or long term to be reckless. I do think it serves the organization to be aggressive.”

In terms of who the Diamondbacks are targeting, it remains a secret, but Hazen did hint at another starting pitcher plus maybe a few relievers.

The D-backs are 22nd in the league in team ERA with a 4.41. They are also one of only four teams with a winning record that have allowed an opposing batting average of over .250.

Stay tuned for further updates as the MLB trade deadline approaches quickly.
