Kelly, who held a 9-3 record entering Saturday, exited the sixth inning with five earned runs credited to his name, resulting in a 5-4 deficit for the Diamondbacks.

The Giants would record their only baserunners on the afternoon against Merrill Kelly. In total, the Diamondbacks bullpen supplied three innings of no-hit relief.

Unfortunately, these perfect innings would go to waste as the D-backs offense struggled to capitalize on opportunities throughout the entire game.

This consistent pattern began in the first inning with a pair of baserunners left on base early on. In the 5th inning, runners on 2nd and 3rd base would also go to waste.

While there was an attempted comeback in the 9th, which consisted of a walk, a single, and a double, Pavin Smith would strikeout swinging with two runners in scoring position to end the game.

Corbin Carroll’s 0-5 afternoon played a large part in the Diamondbacks struggle to capitalize on their 12 hits. In every inning where the D-backs scored, Carroll recorded an out right in the middle of the rally.

Additionally, Corbin Carroll dropped a routine fly ball in the first inning, which allowed the Giants to put up two runs early in the game.

With this pair of losses, the Diamondbacks lead in the NL West has been cut down to just 1.5 games. It will be Ryne Nelson on the mound tomorrow who will attempt to prevent the sweep and send the Diamondbacks back home with a winning record on their seven-game road trip.
