In the first session of games, the ASU women’s team will be playing Fresno State, and the Arizona women will be facing off against Gonzaga.

To start off the second session, the ASU men’s team will be taking on a 2022-23 NCAA tournament team, Northwestern, in their matchup adding to what could be a strong out-of-conference schedule.
The event will be ASU’s second confirmed neutral site game, as the Sun Devils are set to play in the Vegas Showdown on Thanksgiving Weekend alongside NC State, Vanderbilt and BYU.
In a press release, Arizona State coach Bobby Hurley said: “Arizona State Men’s Basketball is thrilled to be able to compete in the Colangelo Classic. We always enjoy competing in Phoenix where our fans have a chance to support us. Jerry Colangelo has done so much for the game or basketball, so it’s a honor to participate in an event supporting his legacy.”
Good to get NCAA Tourney team from previous year at neutral site. Cats 22-12 last year. CBFH neutral site W over some good ones…

The final matchup of the event will probably end up being the game of the day in Arizona vs. Alabama, both respective No. 2 and No. 1 seeds in the NCAA tournament in March. To further the storyline, the Wildcats also added guard Jaden Bradley from the Crimson Tide squad this offseason.
Arizona coach Tommy Lloyd said in a press release: “Jerry Colangelo’s Hall of Fame Phoenix promises to be a fun day for basketball in the state of Arizona and we are thrilled to be part of it. We have tremendous fans and alumni in the Phoenix area and we know Tucson travels, so we look forward to seeing them in the Footprint Center. And taking on a high-level team like Alabama to close out our non-conference schedule will prepare us even more for the Pac-12 schedule after the holidays.”

Also according to the ASU press release: “Both the Arizona State and Arizona men’s teams will both play in Phoenix on the same day for the first time since the Southwest Showdown on December 4, 2001. At what was then known as America West Arena, Arizona State knocked off Utah while Arizona defeated Illinois.”
