Former Texas Tech senior offensive lineman Cade Briggs announced today on Instagram that he is transferring to Arizona State, beefing up the depth on the interior of the Sun Devil front.

Briggs, who is 6-foot-3, 305 pounds, redshirted in his lone season at Texas Tech. He did appear in two games with the Red Raiders, and he served primarily as a backup center and reserve guard. Before Texas Tech, he played three years at New Mexico, mostly at left tackle.

At New Mexico, Briggs started 24 games and played under Saga Tuitele, who is an assistant offensive line coach for the Sun Devils. He brings plenty of versatility to the table for ASU after several offensive linemen hit the portal after spring practices. Coach Kenny Dillingham said a few weeks ago that ASU was looking to add an offensive lineman from the portal.

Briggs is the third player to transfer into the program this week after Colorado WR Jordyn Tyson and Stephen F. Austin DB Joseph McGinnis II announced their commitments to ASU on Tuesday.

Briggs fills a major position of need, as Arizona State’s offense is loaded with weapons, but there are a lot of questions on how well the offensive line will protect whoever ends up being the quarterback.
