Bobby Hurley and ASU have gone portaling once again, this time adding a player from a team that handed the Sun Devils arguably their worst loss of last season. Zane Meeks, a 6-foot-9 junior forward, who averaged 10.9 points on 47.5% shooting and 5.1 rebounds last season for San Francisco committed to the Sun Devils Wednesday night with one year of eligibility left.

Meeks is the second transfer ASU lands this week after LSU guard Adam Miller committed to the Sun Devils on Monday. Meeks started 15 of 29 games played last season for the Dons. In December, USF blew out the Sun Devils 97-60 after they traveled to the Bay right after getting ranked for the first time all year. Meeks had nine points and six rebounds in that game.

Meeks transferred to San Francisco from Nevada before the 2021-22 season. In the 2020-21 season at Nevada, he played with the Sun Devils’ leading scorer last season, Desmond Cambridge Jr., and ASU’s starting center Warren Washington. Cambridge is out of eligibility and Washington currently has his name in the NBA Draft.

Throughout his four season career, Meeks has played in 105 games and started 25 of them. He has averaged 7.7 points and 4.1 rebounds in 18.1 minutes per game in his collegiate career. Hurley confirmed the news with his signature “Forks Up” tweet.

Meeks fills a big need for the Sun Devils at the forward position. Meeks and Alonzo Gaffney are set to be the stretch forwards on next season’s team. The Sun Devils now feature Meeks, Gaffney, Louisville transfer Kamari Lands and incoming freshman Akil Watson in the frontcourt.

Hurley and ASU are shaping up to have a new-look team for the third straight season.
