Just a few hours after losing DJ Horne to NC State Monday morning, the Sun Devils picked up a big commitment from sophomore LSU guard Adam Miller.

Miller, listed at 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds, averaged 11.5 points per game, 2.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists on 33.6% shooting in 33 starts for the Tigers last season. He had been tied to ASU since he announced his intention to transfer April 7, as his former high school and AAU coach Nick Irvin is the special assistant to the head coach for the Sun Devils and Arizona State heavily recruited Miller out of high school. Miller has two years of college eligibility left.

Bobby Hurley confirmed the news in a tweet.

Miller, who is from Peoria, Illinois, was a four-star prospect and ranked 30th in the 2020 ESPN Top 100 rankings. He began his career with Illinois, starting all but two games his freshman year in the 2020-21 season and averaged 8.3 points per game. His play helped the Illini obtain a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. He transferred from the Illini to the Tigers in 2021, but was out for the 2021-22 season after tearing his ACL. This makes ASU his third team in as many seasons played.

Miller also entered the portal in 2022 after LSU coach Will Wade got fired, but opted out for a return to LSU. With this already being his third time in the portal, he tweeted that it will also be his last.

Similar to Horne, Miller is capable of playing both guard positions. He has shown impressive burst and athleticism when he drives and has proven himself to be a willing shot creator. Despite shooting 31.6% on 3-pointers, Miller made three-plus triples 12 times last season. He presumably fills the hole of Horne perfectly for the Sun Devil offense, which gives guards a lot of freedom in creating their own shots.

Miller is the third player to transfer to ASU this offseason, joining Louisville forward Kamari Lands and junior college guard Malachi Davis. Four-star freshmen Braelon Green (guard) and Akil Watson (forward) are the other incoming players for ASU.

Right now, the Sun Devils’ main pieces for next season include these five newcomers, presumably last year’s starting point guard Frankie Collins, who has his name in the NBA Draft but is expected to come back after helping recruit a number of prospects for the Sun Devils, G/F Jamiya Neal, F Alonzo Gaffney and potentially starting F/C Warren Washington, who also declared for the NBA Draft. Collins was happy with the pickup of Miller.

For the third straight season, Hurley has to rebuild his team almost entirely from scratch, and Miller is a perfect piece for his free-flowing offense, which has been a big factor in attracting several recruits in the past to ASU.
