Six Sun Devils reportedly entered the transfer portal or left ASU’s program on Monday, including a quarterback and three defensive linemen.

Offensive lineman Thomas Le Boucher and defensive lineman Jalil Rivera-Harvey were the first ASU players to enter the portal.

Here are all of the other players who transferred or left today (in chronological order):

DT Robby Harrison

Defensive tackle Robby Harrison was the next to enter the portal. At 6-foot-4 and 325 pounds, Harrison is built for success and was a raw prospect for the Sun Devils.

Harrison was a three-star prospect coming out of high school in South Carolina and was ASU’s first recruit from the state in the internet recruiting services era (since 1999).  He also received Division I interest in basketball as well.

Harrison redshirted his first season for ASU and was potentially set for a big role this season. However, incoming freshman C.J. Fite came in and dominated the defensive tackle spot for ASU this spring. He apparently surpassed both Harrison and Jalil Rivera-Harvey for the spot, leading them to transfer.

DL Brandon McElroy

McElroy was third defensive linemen to transfer from the Sun Devils today, making them extremely thin at the position.

McElroy transferred to the Sun Devils before last season from Glendale Community College. He didn’t play football until he got to GCC, as he used to play basketball.

He had 21 tackles, two of which were for losses his last season at GCC. He had no recorded stats in his time at ASU.

QB Bennett Meredith

Meredith is the biggest name to transfer from the Sun Devils today. The quarterback’s best case scenario for ASU would have been being third string on the team with Trenton Bourguet, Drew Pyne, Jaden Rashada and even Jacob Conover all in the mix.

Meredith committed to the Sun Devils as a three-star prospect out of Alabama in December of 2021. He threw for 5,318 yards and 47 touchdowns in 20 regular season games during his two seasons as the varsity starting quarterback at his high school.

Just a little more than a week ago, he tweeted, “I love this place man!”

Meredith is talented enough that he could get a starting or direct backup opportunity elsewhere, as the quarterback situation that unfolded at Arizona State unfairly affected him.

WR Zeke Freeman

One position that ASU is strongest at this season is wide receiver, highlighted by Elijhah Badger, Xavier Guillory and Gio Sanders. Freeman was slated to be a backup for the Sun Devils. According to Chris Karpman of 247 Sports, Freeman is no longer with the team and has one year of eligibility if he would like to use it elsewhere.

Freeman committed to the Sun Devils before the 2022 season from a junior college as a deep ball threat. In his last season for Kilgore College, he averaged 29 yards per catch on 24 catches for 697 yards. He played three games in 2022 for the Sun Devils and his only recorded stats were one rush for four yards.
